Regent Park

GHD has helped the Daniels Corporation and Toronto Housing Corporation in Canada to revitalise downtown Toronto’s biggest social housing project known as Regent Park.

As part of our involvement in the project, the clients’ goal was clear – to create a mixed-income, mixed-use community for 12,500 residents by the year 2020 by replacing more than 2000 social and affordable housing units and add about 5400 condominiums for market housing.

GHD was tasked with coordinating the design teams from several consultants and organizations, as well as aligning the engineering services and criteria to meet scheduling and budget demands.

The project required our team to provide detailed design of site servicing and grading and site plan blocks; document areas within the completed development; obtain approvals for the stormwater management reports; co-ordinate the service connection locations for the Toronto Water site plan application; and to develop a site servicing deficiency list for the architect and contractor by inspecting underground storm, sanitary and water services, and grading the works shown on the plans.

Overall, GHD has delivered the site servicing and grading plans and stormwater management implementation reports for 90 percent of the site plan development, and has consistently met budget and schedule requirements, playing a key role in the delivery of this long-term development.
