GHD is an employee-owned company led by a dedicated Board of Directors.

They are leaders in their respective fields. Their knowledge of industry and strong commercial acumen has shaped GHD as a progressive, contemporary professional services company.


Russell Board Russell Board – Chairman

Russell has been a Director of GHD since 1999. He was appointed Chairman in 2011 and is responsible for the company’s high-level direction and corporate governance. A civil engineer with more than 30 years’ experience, Russell has held executive responsibility for GHD’s business in Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia, and South America. He has moved extensively during his career including Townsville, Darwin, Cairns and Auckland, and now resides in Melbourne. Much of his career has involved managing a broad range of infrastructure projects, particularly in remote areas. Russell has completed a Management Development Project at Mt Eliza School of Management and an Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Institution of Engineers, Australia.


Ian Sherphrd CEO Ian Shepherd – Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Ian has been a Director of GHD since 1999 and has over 30 years’ experience in engineering and project management. Ian was appointed Chief Executive Officer in mid-November 2008, and is responsible for the implementation of GHD’s strategy. Prior to Ian’s appointment as CEO he was General Manager of Australia having held this role from 2003 to 2008, as well as General Manager for the Middle East from 2005 to 2008.

Nick Apostolidis Nicholas Apostolidis – Global Development Leader

Appointed to the Board in 2002 Nicholas brings over 30 years’ international experience in consulting, in particular the water sector which he led for the past 10 years. Nicholas is a director of Water Australia, a Board member of the Australian Green Infrastructure Council and was recently appointed to the Strategic Council of the International Water Association (IWA). In his current role, Nicholas is responsible for the further development of our global water business.


May Ngui May Ngui – Industrial Electrical and Automation Service Group Sydney
May Ngui is the manager of the Industrial Electrical and Automation Service Group in Sydney. She has 25 years’ experience in the design and commissioning of electrical and computer-based control systems for industrial plants and infrastructure both in Australia and overseas, and joined GHD in 1991. May has played an important role in GHD’s technical development and was, until recently, the Service Line Leader for Instrumentation and Control. She is a member of our Technical Advisory Group and also provides support to Engineers Australia’s professional women’s mentoring program.

John Baird John Baird - General Manager Australia/New Zealand
John joined the Board in 2008 and is now responsible for GHD’s operations in Australia and New Zealand. With GHD since 1977, after a short period with the Queensland government, John has worked on a wide range of civil and building projects around the world. Most recently, he managed our operations in the Middle East and Europe and prior to this, south Queensland. He was previously Service Line Leader for Structures and the Business Group Manager for Structures and Urban Development in Brisbane.

Robert Knott Robert Knott - Canberra Operating Centre Manager
Rob Knott leads our Canberra operations and manages a team responsible for projects in the Australian Capital Territory and southern New South Wales as well as the Asia Pacific through international development assistance. Rob has more than 23 years’ experience in the leadership of major projects in infrastructure, defence, and property and buildings.

Mike Mutisov Michael Muntisov - Manager Integrated Services Victoria
Michael has more than 30 years of water industry experience, including more than 10 years in senior management roles. Michael joined GHD in 1983. His particular focus is in water treatment and he has played a key role in the technical development of GHD's practice in the water quality and treatment discipline. He is experienced in high level business leadership, incorporating client, financial and team management.

Warren Traves Warren Traves - South Queensland Operating Centre Manager
Warren joined GHD in 1988 and has worked with the company in Brisbane, Cairns and Manila across a variety of disciplines. He was GHD’s Global Market Leader Water and currently manages the company’s South Queensland Operations. Warren served on GHD’s Strategy Committee from 2004 – 2009. He is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Peter Wasow Peter Wasow
Peter is GHD’s first non-executive director. He recently retired as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Santos Ltd, an ASX top-20 Australian-based international oil and gas company. Peter has direct international experience in working with subsidiaries, customers, partners, lenders, governments, suppliers and people in many countries including the USA, Indonesia, Canada, South America, Japan, Korea, the UK, and Germany.
