professional services company, operating globally in the markets of
Energy, Water, Transportation, Property & Buildings and
Environment.
However, with the world continuing to face rapid technological
changes and issues such as a resource deficit and climate change,
there was a need to adopt a more structured approach to generating,
collaborating on and delivering great ideas.
In response, Innovations, GHD's award winning innovation program
was launched in 2008 to harness the creativity and knowledge of our
people and partners across the world.

Innovations integrates with our business and as a

Three stage approach
GHD's innovation program has adopted a three staged
approach to its development and application. Initially we applied
our framework within GHD. With these learnings we developed an
innovation framework for projects and are now applying on a global
infrastructure industry scale through the www.innovationinterchange.com
Types of ideas
Within GHD, Innovations is open to all employees.
It encourages challenge identification and related ideas that help
our clients’ business. We also encourage ideas that improve our
internal processes, ensuring GHD efficiently and effectively serves
its clients.
End to end process
Innovations provides a multi stage process for idea
development, including opportunity/challenge definition, idea
submission and evaluation, through to solution development and
delivery. A key element of the process is a fair and transparent
review process that identifies those ideas that have the greatest
potential to generate value.
People and collaboration
The success of Innovations is based upon
facilitating collaboration between our people and business partners
across the globe. Working together across disciplines, industries,
markets and continents enables our people to see things from a
fresh perspective and successfully transfer knowledge, skills and
experience throughout our network.
GHD's innovation team
Trained Innovation leaders and advocates are
located in all GHD's operating centres and an Innovation Advisory
Group reviews ideas and provides feedback to all idea generators. A
centralised innovation team is responsible for managing the
program and provides innovation consulting services to our clients
and business partners.
Technology to support the
innovation process
GHD designed, built and now manage the Innovation
Zone, a technology platform that connects our people across 5
continents. The Zone enables staff to submit, collaborate and vote
on challenges and ideas. A Project Zone has also been developed for
use when delivering infrastructure projects. In addition, the
Innovation Interchange web portal has been developed that connects
