GHD architects have designed a contemporary new education
centre for Guide Dogs Victoria.
In keeping with the bushland setting along the Yarra River in
Kew, the proposed new building will provide a central venue for
training, conference and administration activities for the
association.
GHD designed the facility to consolidate the various campus
buildings, presenting a fresh image by providing a new entrance
experience and arrival point in a low, lean envelope.
The main conference facilities are raised to allow parking below,
and the cantilevered form overlooks the river and parklands to take
advantage of the views in and out of the site, as well as the
natural beauty of its surrounds.
The conference rooms can be opened to provide balconies that enjoy
views out across the river as well as to the new arrival courtyard
space. In this way, the balcony acts with the court to form an
amphitheatre to suit their annual Open Day event and other large
gatherings.
