Victorian Transport Plan the most significant in decades
The Victorian Transport Plan is one of the most significant
government plans Australia has seen in decades, GHD’s Victorian
Operating Centre Manager Phil Duthie said today.
"GHD is supportive of the Victorian Transport Plan and believes
the document is a key step forward in developing our state’s
transport infrastructure and public transport services," he
said.
In its submission to the East West Link Needs Assessment in
July, GHD called for a clear and comprehensive plan for Melbourne’s
transportation infrastructure, including a clear framework for
road, port, rail, light rail, bus, cycle and pedestrian
transport.
GHD also highlighted the need to address capacity constraints in
the current transportation network before embarking on a major
expansion.
"GHD is pleased that these concerns and issues have been
addressed by the Victorian Transport Plan," Mr Duthie said.
"Melbourne is in the early stages of profound change as a result
of global warming, urban congestion increased car ownership and
higher fuel prices. The plan will encourage Victorians to establish
more sustainable travel habits.
"GHD is committed to assisting the government to progress and
deliver the broad range of initiatives put forward in the plan and
we look forward to continuing our involvement with the state in
delivering key projects of strategic significance that will ensure
a sustainable future for all Victorians."
