Leading professional and technical services firm GHD,
together with John Holland, has been appointed to deliver the first
stage of Barwon Water’s Capital Works Program Alliance.
The alliance will be responsible for more than 100
projects worth AUD$355 million over the initial four-year
contract.
The private sector partnership is a first
for Barwon Water. GHD will contribute to a team of about 80
engineering, design and construction professionals, including 25
Barwon Water personnel, who will operate from an alliance office in
the Geelong CBD.
“This is the most ambitious capital works
program in Barwon Water’s history and will ensure we have safe,
reliable water to meet future development in one of the fastest
growing areas of Victoria,” Barwon Water Chairman Roger Lowrey
said.
Mr Lowrey said the partnership with GHD and
John Holland would encourage innovation, better technical and
quality results, value for money and timely delivery of
projects.
“This means better outcomes for our
customers, Barwon Water and our partners,” Mr Lowrey said.
The alliance will focus on pipeline and pump
station installation, the development of water storage and
treatment plants and water recycling infrastructure. The scope of
works includes recycled water, water reclamation, sewer collection,
water treatment, water distribution and various headworks
projects.
GHD Victoria Manager Phil Duthie said: “We are
proud to be involved in a project that will play a significant role
in meeting Victoria’s regional water needs”.
The newly created alliance entity will
begin delivery of five projects in October. The first projects
include to new pump stations and the upgrade of an existing pump
station, along with a sewer collection system and the upgrade of a
water storage reservoir.
