Jo Metcalfe, a Business Group Manager for Canberra’s largest consultancy firm, GHD, has won the Hudson Private and Corporate Sector Award at the 2009 Telstra ACT Business Women’s Awards, held at Parliament House today.

Ms Holly Kramer, Group Managing Director, Telstra Product Management and Telstra Business Women’s Awards Ambassador, said the Hudson award recognised women who lead and inspire in the corporate world.

“GHD serves clients in the global markets of water, energy and resources, environment, property and buildings, and transport. Jo plays a multitude of leadership and team roles at GHD. She is responsible for the Management and Property group in Canberra which has an annual turnover of $7.2 million,” said Ms Kramer.

“The judges commented that Jo took a collaborative approach to leadership and had an excellent understanding of how business worked from both a financial and management aspect,” she said.

Hudson has been involved with the awards for more than eight years and for the last three years has sponsored the Hudson Private and Corporate Sector Award.

Mark Steyn, CEO Hudson Australia/New Zealand, said the company was proud to be judging and sponsoring a programme which highlighted the multi-dimensional nature of women in business.

“The finalists have yet again proved their ability to mix family, community and wellbeing with leadership, energy and an entrepreneurial spirit in their daily work,” he said.

Now in its fifteenth year, the Awards recognise the achievements of women in business of all types and sizes, from up-and-coming young business women to corporate leaders and those working in the not-for-profit sector. The Awards has recognised over 400 business women since its inception in 1995.

Award winners will compete for the national award in their category at the National Award Presentation Gala Dinner in Melbourne on Thursday, 12 November.
