Leading professional and technical services firm GHD has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable water management with the appointment of a team of new business leaders.

Under the direction of Warren Traves, Global Leader, Water, the team will drive the growth of GHD’s water business, including leveraging opportunities brought by four strategic mergers in the United States.

Chris Hertle will drive our partnerships with industry as Business Leader, Industrial Water Management. Chris has more than 20 years’ experience in industrial water management and is assisting some of the world’s largest companies to more efficiently manage their water use and turn industrial waste into a beneficial resource.

Peter Sutherland, who has played a key role in establishing catchment management authorities in Victoria and New South Wales, has been appointed Business Leader, Water Resources & Irrigation. Peter has led the implementation of national water reforms and was a Deputy Commissioner on the Murray Darling Basin Authority.

Ross Fryar will work jointly between our water and environment teams as Business Leader, Water & Environment. Ross has been a major contributor to GHD’s delivery of significant environmental impact assessments covering major port developments, desalination projects, wastewater treatment plants and urban development projects.

Gary Crisp, who played a key role in developing the first major desalination plant in Australia, becomes Business Leader, Desalination and will help to drive growth in this important new market. Gary is a board member of the International Desalination Association and has spent the past two years working on the Gold Coast Desalination project.

Steve Carne, who has contributed to technical excellence within GHD as the technical leader for sewer systems, has been appointed Business Leader, New Zealand to drive the growth of our water business in New Zealand.

In addition, GHD has appointed four new business leaders in the US as a commitment to our investment there. Rhodes (Rip) Copithorn, Jason Gianquinto, Peter Chan and Mike Elliott will support Mr Traves in capitalising on opportunities in the US.

“Water is an increasingly scarce resource, but we are committed to helping our clients and communities find smarter, more sustainable ways to manage it,” Mr Traves said.

“The global water market offers exciting challenges and opportunities for GHD and I welcome the support of this very experienced team to continue to position GHD as a world leader in water.”
