One of the world’s leading engineering, architecture and
environmental consulting companies, GHD, has been shortlisted in
the 2010 IDEA awards in two categories - Major Commercial Interior
and Sustainable Project for their Sydney headquarters.
The Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA)
showcase the best in Australian design. First held in 2001, the
prestigious awards program receives hundreds of submissions from
across Australia each year and is recognised by the design
community as the country’s pre-eminent design awards program.
GHD’s fit out intent was to create a corporate,
professional space for formal interactions with clients,
reinforcing the company image as a global professional services
provider. The staff areas reflect a relaxed and playful environment
fostering creativity and innovation. Colour plays an integral role
in differentiating each space.
A team from GHD’s interiors, building services and
project management groups collaborated to create a space adhering
to sustainable industry standards. The finished design confirms
that quality sustainable outcomes can be integrated at the same
cost as commonplace design solutions. The three-level office space
is flexible in use, which minimises the likelihood of modifications
being required during the tenancy.
The fit-out excels when measured against a triple
bottom line of environmental, social and financial objectives,
demonstrating that quality sustainable design solutions do not have
to exceed typical budgets.
The company’s headquarters are registered for
GreenStar Office Interiors Version 1.1 and targets a 4 star
rating. The space was also short-listed for a Dulux Colour
Award in the category of Sustainable Interiors in March 2010.
GHD Sydney Office Manager David Kinniburgh said,

premises. The outcome of the new space is a tribute to the variety
of services we offer.”
Winners will be announced at the IDEA gala party,
which will be held in Sydney in November 2010.
