One of the world’s leading engineering, architecture and
environmental consulting companies, GHD and the world’s largest
exporter of thermal coal Xstrata Coal have been recognised for
excellence once again at the 2010 Annual Australian Mining Prospect
Awards.
The awards recognise innovation, initiative, hard work and
superior performance in a range of mining categories. GHD and
Xstrata Coal won the category of “Coal Mining of the
Year”, for managing rail safety to enable longwall coal mining
to be carried out beneath an operating passenger and freight
railway at Tahmoor in the NSW Southern Highlands.
GHD’s Newcastle Operating Centre Manager Tasos
Katopodis said “This is the second major award this project has
received in recent times. It’s a great outcome and further
validation for what has become a marquee project for GHD.
Importantly for the client, the project enables access to millions
of tonnes of coal otherwise left sterile.
“I would like to especially recognise the great
contribution made by our Strategic Manager for Rail, Graeme
Robinson, in managing and directing this project for GHD over
recent years.”
