13 October 2010

Bright and early on the morning of Wednesday 13 October, staff from GHD’s Orange office participated in the 2010 Ride to Work Day.

The office's one experienced cyclist, and many that had not ridden a bicycle in years, donned safety gear, mapped out a safe route to the office from their homes and enjoyed a celebratory breakfast at the end.

“It was a fun and refreshing initiative that seems to have definitely inspired our staff to ride more, and was also great for overall morale,” said Steve Martin, GHD Manager – Orange & Dubbo, who also runs the Orange Triathlon Club.

There are significant benefits for everyone who takes up bike riding – especially improved physical and mental health and a greater sense of well being, fulfilment and happiness.

Riders consistently report that they are motivated to ride by health benefits as well as a sense of connection and belonging, new friends and engaged work mates.

The majority of GHD’s people are eager to ride to work on a regular basis now that the weather is warmer and look forward to further initiatives that encourage a healthier lifestyle.

GHD provides technical leadership in engineering, architecture and the environmental consulting in more than 100 offices around the world. In Central West NSW, GHD’s local offices in Orange and Dubbo harness a diverse range of professionals who work closely with global resources as projects dictate.
