GHD’s Senior Principal Geotechnical Engineer, Andrew Leventhal, was honoured with the Sir John Holland Award for Civil Engineer of the Year at the Engineers Australia Civil and Structural Colleges Gala Awards Dinner on Thursday 27 October. The award recognises Andrew’s outstanding contributions to the engineering profession.

Andrew has successfully managed geotechnical investigations and given major geotechnical and hydrogeological input to designs of large scale projects. For more than 35 years, he has contributed to the profession through his work and joint efforts with both the Sydney Division of Engineers Australia and the Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS).

Andrew has focused much of his experience on Landslide Risk Management, (LRM) having first approached the issue professionally in 1985. To contribute to community wellbeing in this area, he led the Landslide Taskforce in 2007, the Risky Roadshow in 2002, and represented Australia in international LRM workshops. Andrew also led the steering committee for the Risky Roadshow 2011 seminars across Australia.

This is the third award for Andrew this year, who was also named NSW Professional Engineer of the Year by Engineers Australia (Sydney Division) and Geotechnical Practitioner of the Year by the Australian Geomechanics Society.
