GHD’s Senior Principal Geotechnical Engineer, Andrew Leventhal,
was honoured with the Sir John Holland Award for Civil Engineer
of the Year at the Engineers Australia Civil and Structural
Colleges Gala Awards Dinner on Thursday 27 October. The award
recognises Andrew’s outstanding contributions to the engineering
profession.
Andrew has successfully managed geotechnical
investigations and given major geotechnical and hydrogeological
input to designs of large scale projects. For more than 35 years,
he has contributed to the profession through his work and joint
efforts with both the Sydney Division of Engineers Australia and
the Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS).
Andrew has focused much of his experience on
Landslide Risk Management, (LRM) having first approached the issue
professionally in 1985. To contribute to community wellbeing in
this area, he led the Landslide Taskforce in 2007, the Risky
Roadshow in 2002, and represented Australia in international LRM
workshops. Andrew also led the steering committee for the Risky
Roadshow 2011 seminars across Australia.
This is the third award for Andrew this year, who
was also named NSW Professional Engineer of the Year by Engineers
Australia (Sydney Division) and Geotechnical Practitioner of the
Year by the Australian Geomechanics Society.
