The Australian Geomechanics Society has honoured GHD’s
Andrew Leventhal as Geotechnical Practitioner
of the Year 2010. Andrew is a Senior Principal Geotechnical
Engineer in GHD’s Artarmon office.
The award acknowledges significant contribution to
the geotechnical profession and represents the life-blood of the
Australian Geomechanics Society.
Current National Chairman of AGS, Graham Scholey,
presented the award to Andrew at a meeting of Sydney Chapter
members on 13 April 2011. Graham noted, “The award recognises
contributions of the highest order over an extended period with a
commitment to the geotechnical profession in Australia and to the
Australian Geomechanics Society.”
The mission of the AGS is to encourage advancement
and excellence in the theory and practice of geomechanics and to
promote these both in Australia and overseas.
Key features that highlight Andrew’s contribution
include:
- Significant advancement of Landslide Risk
Management across the nation
- Commitment over more than 25 years to the
Australian Geomechanics Society and its members
- Commitment to the geotechnical profession for more
than 35 years through his consulting experience in many aspects of
geotechnical engineering and rock mechanics (spent almost
exclusively with GHD Geotechnics and its predecessors)
GHD’s Tony Colenbrander, Business Group Manager, Geotechnics &
Dams said, “Andrew is a most worthy recipient of this prestigious
award, rightly securing his place with the notable former
recipients of the award.”
Past recipients of the award include Prof. Harry
Poulos (2004), Max Ervin (2006), and Dr Peter Mitchell
(2008).
