Leading global commentator, the Economist, named Melbourne as
the second most liveable city in the world in 2011. A liveable city
is defined by its economic stability, access to health care and
education, culture, the environment and quality infrastructure –
including transport.
The second most liveable city in the world? Moving Melbourne
through its transport challenges’ explores the role
Melbourne’s transport system plays in making it such a great place.
It also investigates if it’s all a good news story – looking at
what critical problems need to be addressed to maintain liveability
now and into the future.
The documentary features exclusive interviews and
footage of thought-leaders from Melbourne and around the world,
including:
- Enrique Peñalosa, former Mayor of Bogota
(1998-2001)
- David Hodge, Executive Director, Department of
Planning Services & Urban Development (DPCD)
- Professor Graham Currie, Chair Public Transport,
Monash University
- Harry Barber, CEO, Bicycle Victoria
This was produced to ensure that the ideas brought to the table
during the landmark Moving Melbourne seminars (Feb-April 2011)
continue to be discussed and debated. The seminars brought together
industry heavy-weights to discuss and challenge the status quo.
