One of the world’s leading engineering, architecture and environmental consulting companies, GHD, is proud to be confirmed as an alliance partner in the Gateway WA Consortium by Main Roads to deliver the AUD1 billion Gateway WA Perth Airport and Freight Access Project on behalf of the Australian and Western Australian Governments.

The Gateway WA Consortium, comprising Leighton Contractors, Georgiou, GHD, AECOM and BG&E signed the Alliance Agreement in Perth, Western Australia in November 2012, following successful negotiations after being announced preferred proponent in October.

Gateway WA is the largest infrastructure project ever undertaken by Main Roads WA and aims to improve the safety and efficiency of one of the State’s most important transport hubs; where road, rail and air services connect.

The project will upgrade the Tonkin Highway (between Great Eastern Highway and Roe Highway) and Leach Highway (between Orrong Road and the Perth Airport), including the construction of five new interchanges, local road improvements, pedestrian and cyclist facilities, landscaping and urban design.

At the signing ceremony, GHD CEO Ian Shepherd commented, “Today’s ceremony marks the start of an exciting opportunity, for each of the participant organisations represented in the Consortium and for the stakeholders and the community that will benefit from this national priority project.

“Over the next five months, we will develop the design and work closely with Main Roads WA to provide Government the absolute confidence that the right scope, price and construction approach has been achieved.

“As a team we will achieve the State’s vision for this iconic project and demonstrate value for money for the Western Australian community.”

Construction is expected to commence in April 2013, with the full scope of works expected to be completed by 2017.

The AUD1 billion project is being jointly funded with the Federal Government contributing up to AUS686.4 million as part of the Regional Infrastructure Fund and Nation Building Program.
