GHD, one of the world’s leading engineering, architecture and environmental consulting companies, in alliance with John Holland, Abigroup, Coleman Rail and AECOM, has been awarded the AUD570 million Regional Rail Link project - City and Maribyrnong River works package.

The Regional Rail Link is Australia’s largest public transport infrastructure project, designed to remove major bottlenecks on Victoria’s train network. By untangling the metropolitan and regional tracks that travel through Melbourne’s west and into the heart of the city, commuters will have access to a more reliable rail service.

Commenting on the project, GHD’s Victorian Manager Dean McIntyre said, “GHD is proud to be involved in this iconic project that addresses one of the state’s major infrastructure needs. The project looks set to inject life into the economy through an additional 550 jobs for Victorians.”

  • The project scope for this package includes:
  • Laying 4.5 km of new tracks to separate metropolitan and regional trains
  • Track reconfiguration and upgrades to the North Melbourne rail-over-rail flyover which will be used to access platforms 1-8 at Southern Cross Station
  • Bridge modifications at Dynon Road, Moonee Ponds Creek and Lloyd Street
  • Construction of a new rail bridge over the Maribyrnong River

The Regional Rail Link project is a jointly-funded initiative by the Victorian and Australian Government.
