GHD, one of the world’s leading engineering, architecture and environmental consulting companies, has appointed a new Global Market Leader for Transportation. David Kinniburgh, an almost 20-year veteran with GHD, has transitioned from his role managing the company’s Sydney operations into the strategic post of driving global transportation initiatives.

With more than 20 years’ experience, David brings to the role a breadth of project understanding and leadership, ranging from concept development and detailed design through to construction management, predominantly in the transportation sector.

Commenting on his appointment, David offers, “We’re observing some significant changes to the way infrastructure is delivered across the globe. It’s important for us to be agile in our approach, and capitalise on the key levers of innovation and collaboration.

“I’m excited to be able to work collectively with our clients and our talented team in setting forth strategies to position our clients at the forefront of transportation. I see technical leadership, and a focus on adding value as our key differentiators in today’s market.”

In recent years, GHD has contributed to a number of significant transportation initiatives across the globe. As part of the City East Alliance in Western Australia, the company helped deliver an upgrade to a 4.2km stretch of Perth’s Greater Eastern Highway. More than 100 qualifying innovations generated through the costing phase meant the project schedule was reduced by almost 18 months.

In the United Kingdom, GHD is collaborating closely with Carillion to provide design management to the Doncaster to Water Orton (D2WO) gauge enhancement program, which will make way for heightened container freight traffic to the key route when complete.

David is passionate about the wider community impacts his transportation team can deliver.

“Following recent earthquakes, the Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (SCIRT) is rebuilding resilient infrastructure. As one of the four lead design organisations, GHD is providing concept and detailed design for roading projects incorporating innovative techniques to speed up delivery.

“It is these types of projects that allow us to realise the positive impact we have directly on the communities in which we live and work,” he concludes.
