For the second year running, the Oryx Rotana has been recognised as the Best Airport Hotel in the Middle East. The hotel, which is owned by Qatar Airways and was designed by engineering, architecture and environmental consulting company GHD, won the title at the recent Skytrax 2013 World Airport Awards.

GHD was involved in all aspects of the design of the hotel, from the initial concept and development of the design through to site supervision and contract documentation. An integrated team provided architecture, interior design, landscape, structural engineering and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) services to the project.

Cameron Gillanders, GHD Manager - Qatar, congratulated Qatar Airways and Oryx Rotana on the award. He offers, “Providing 5-star service has always been top priority for Qatar Airways. We at GHD are proud to have played a part in the development of their world-class facilities.”

GHD was commissioned for the design of the 400-room hotel after winning a design competition. It proposed a design of two eight-story guest room wings to be separated by a large glazed atrium incorporating a lobby, lounge, all-day restaurant and pool area.

Qatar is fast becoming known as a premier business destination in the region. This award establishes the Oryx Rotana as a world class hotel. With its business centre and conference rooms, the hotel provides a short-term home to business people traveling through Doha.

“The hotel’s contemporary architecture and invitingly informal atmosphere have also made the Oryx Rotana a popular place to be for tourists and locals alike,” Cameron continues.

Guests can also enjoy a luxury spa, a choice of fine restaurants and a Jazz bar that looks out onto private courtyard gardens.
