As part of the company’s ongoing efforts to support the Indigenous community, GHD has sponsored the World Indigenous Network Conference during Australia’s National Reconciliation Week.

Hosted by the Australian Government, the Larrakia Nation (the original people of Darwin) and partner countries, the Conference provides an opportunity for Indigenous Peoples and local community land and sea managers to come together, connect and share stories and experiences.

The event aims to help build the foundations for an innovative and enduring World Indigenous Network that strives towards greater social, economic and environmental sustainability.

Peter Dunn, GHD’s Leader for Indigenous Services, says, “For us, this conference provides GHD with the opportunity to open communication with traditional owners and communities.

"This will allow us to better deliver our projects on their lands, and listen to what is important to them when working on and designing projects that impact their communities. In particular, we hope to help provide infrastructure projects in Indigenous communities into the future."

GHD has been involved in a number of other successful Indigenous initiatives in recent times. The consulting company was recognised at the 2013 Property Council of Australia Innovation Awards, where non-profit organisation CareerTrackers, in association with GHD and other property industry partners, won the Innovation Award for its Indigenous Internship Program. Through this program, the company has employed 13 Indigenous cadets to date. GHD also won the Consult Australian Diversity Award for its Indigenous Action Plan in 2012.
