No other professional consulting company located on the Coffs Coast has been involved in the volume and range of projects that GHD Coffs Harbour has, including the Coffs Harbour Airport upgrade, Coffs Infrastructure Alliance projects, the North Sapphire Beach subdivision and the Iluka Sewerage Scheme.

North Sapphire Beach Subdivision

GHD was engaged by Sapphire Beach Properties to develop the infrastructure master planning, preliminary and final designs for a 267 lot residential subdivision at iconic North Sapphire Beach just north of Coffs Harbour.

This included road and pedestrian walkways/cycleways, stormwater drainage, water and sewerage services and coordination of the electrical and telecommunications services. The conceptual layouts were refined to accommodate flora and fauna habitats and physical constraints, including flood zones.

Pacific Highway Upgrade

GHD assisted the New South Wales Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) to improve road safety and reduce travel times on the Pacific Highway in Northern New South Wales.

GHD's role involved the Woolgoolga to Wells Crossing and Oxley Highway to Kempsey projects. The scope of work included route option investigation, route selection concept design and extensive community consultation. An environmental impact study also looked at route selection to minimise impacts on sensitive environmental areas including endangered ecological communities, protected wetlands, national parks and nature reserves.

Bellingen Shire Growth Management Strategy

The river valley and plateau landscapes that characterise the Bellingen Shire on the New South Wales mid-north coast have made the area a desirable place to live. To help the council achieve its goal of creating a prosperous and cohesive community in an area of outstanding natural beauty, GHD was engaged to prepare the 2006-2026 Bellingen Shire Growth Management Strategy.

Bellingen is primarily a rural area with large tracts of national park, nature reserve and state forest land, interspersed with towns, villages and small settlements.

Rainer Berg

Rainer is a civil engineer with more than 20 years experience in hydrology and hydraulics, stormwater and floodplain management, water resources planning, water sensitive urban design, and catchment management. His extensive experience includes the successful delivery of large, multidisciplinary projects in Australia, Southern Africa and the United Kingdom.

As the Coffs Harbour Manager and Business Group Manager for Northern New South Wales, Rainer’s remit spans the New South Wales coast from the Great Lakes area to the Queensland border and north-west NSW, encompassing the GHD offices at Ballina, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie. Rainer is committed to continually diversifying and adapting GHD's services to meet the increasing complexity and range of projects that the growing Northern New South Wales region requires. His background in water management is particularly apt for the Northern New South Wales region given its focus on water conservation and management.
