Dubbo

The Dubbo office has recently emerged as a GHD regional office through GHD's acquisition of Hassall & Associates in January 2008. The Dubbo team offers access to the full suite of GHD's services for projects of all sizes.

Our Dubbo team is organised around key disciplines including strategy and evaluation, economics and agriculture, environmental services, planning and project management. Merging with Hassall & Associates has strengthened GHD's position in providing local assistance particularly in the strategy, evaluation, economics and policy areas.

The team is particularly focused on improving the sustainable management of natural resources, effectiveness of industry and government programs, and sustainability and competitiveness of rural and regional Australia.

At the local level and more broadly across the state of New South Wales, our networks are extensive and we communicate successfully with farmers, researchers, investors, policy makers, politicians and conservationists. Our experience over many years, both as GHD and previously as Hassall & Associates, means we understand the industry in which our clients operate and the local landscape in which their work is undertaken.

Clients value our unique position to advise them, being grounded in agriculture yet well skilled in, and able to consider, broader natural resource management issues.

Greengrove Effluent Irrigation Scheme

image

The Greengrove Effluent Irrigation Scheme is Dubbo City Council’s practical and far-sighted response to serious waste disposal, environmental and urban issues following toxic algae blooms in the Murray-Darling Basin.

Dubbo City Council engaged GHD (in conjunction with the NSW Department of Commerce, NSW Department of Energy and Utilities & Sustainability) as the head contractor responsible for constructing and commissioning the scheme. The scheme consists of 208ha of centre pivot irrigation, related infrastructure and paddock preparation. Our team also has an ongoing role in the scheme’s operation and management.

Macquarie Marshes & Gwydir Wetlands

image

GHD was engaged by the Central West (CW) and Border Rivers-Gwydir (BRG) catchment management authorities (CMAs) to study the distribution and management of Lippia in the Macquarie Marshes & Gwydir Wetlands.

Our work increased the CMAs' understanding of Lippia (Phyla Canescens) throughout the area, including the rate of spread, outbreak triggers and control measure successes.

Dubbo groundwater supply and drought management strategy

image

GHD provided hydrogeological and groundwater modelling services to develop a numerical model of part of the Upper Macquarie alluvial aquifer, and evaluation of alternative groundwater extraction options for sustainable water supply to the city of Dubbo.

The Macquarie River at Dubbo, in central-west New South Wales, is a major source of recharge to groundwater in the underlying alluvial aquifers, and both the river and groundwater are vital sources of water to the city of Dubbo. GHD services will allow Dubbo City Council to choose the best pumping scenarios between various bore locations and the river to minimise and share these impacts in the most equitable way.
