The New Perth to Bunbury Highway in Western Australia has been
recognised with 2009 WA Engineering Excellence Awards.
The Southern Gateway Alliance (SGA) of which GHD is a member won
awards in the Infrastructure and Building and the Management of
Engineering categories for the New Perth to Bunbury Highway (NPBH)
now named the Kwinana Freeway extension and the Forrest
Highway.
The highway has doubled the length of the existing freeway
network and involved the design and construction of 70.5km of dual
carriageway. Funded by both the Commonwealth and State Government
of Western Australia, the NPBH was constructed by the SGA,
comprising Leighton Contractors, WA Limestone, GHD and Main Roads
WA.
The NPBH is one of WA’s most significant infrastructure projects
and officially opened to the public on Sunday 20th
September 2009 having delivered excellent outcomes across the
board. Innovation and excellence in engineering by the Alliance
brought the project to completion, several months ahead of
schedule.
The project was also delivered under budget, achieved a Platinum
Work Safe award, exceeded mandated training requirements under the
Building Skills Policy, delivered positive community and
environmental benefits, and updated road construction standards for
the industry.
