Grand Hyatt Resort

image

GHD is the principal consultant for the design of this high profile five-star tourist resort. The architecture and services are designed in modern Qatari style and provide a solution to the harsh desert environment.

The Grand Hyatt development, commissioned by the Tourism Investment Company, is a luxurious resort complex comprising a 250-suite hotel and fully serviced five-star holiday villas. Located along the Arabian Gulf, the innovative cluster layout concept maximises the view of the beach from each villa, while retaining privacy. The design engenders the site’s characteristics, that of the collusion of water and the desert.

Wastewater Flow Monitoring Code of Practice

image

GHD was tasked with developing an innovative wastewater flow monitoring Code of Practice (CoP) for the utility regulator in a country in the Gulf Cooperation Council in the Middle East. The challenge demanded an approach that understood the management of assets throughout their whole life cycle and considered the full data chain of the flow monitoring. The client required that GHD would both advise and instruct throughout the project.

During the project, an Abu Dhabi sector review of wastewater metering was undertaken to ensure all wastewater licensees fulfilled their statutory obligations, were behaving consistently and that all metering data produced was accurate and reliable. The scope of the development was then investigated, with the proposed content, context, key components the overall format of the code all considered.

Doha International Airport

image

GHD was commissioned to design a new in-flight duty free store by Zublin International. This store has a footprint of approximately 2,000 m² and is primarily a ground floor warehouse used for storing in-flight products for sale on aircraft but also includes limited office space.

The duty free warehouse has a footprint of approximately 11,400 m² and is a structural steel framed construction on in-situ concrete foundations with steel composite mezzanine floors and proprietary roofing and cladding systems. It is intended to house a variety of goods for the Qatar Duty Free, prior to the goods being distributed to the main terminal building. The size of both sites has been safeguarded for future expansion.
