Since 1983, the Seattle office of GHD has served municipalities and other public agencies in the planning, design, and implementation of more than 2,000 drainage, sewer, and water infrastructure projects in Washington. All of GHD’s work routinely incorporates low impact development and sustainable concepts. Ballard Library and Neighborhood Service Center

Under its 'Libraries for All' building program, Seattle Public Library built a new branch library in Ballard as part of its neighborhood new municipal centre master plan.

The green building was designed on a modest budget and included elements taken from Ballard’s Scandinavian and maritime history. The project included underground parking, a neighborhood service centre and a vegetated roof.

Mountainview High School

RoseWater GHD provided plans and design of drainage, grading, paving, utilities, and temporary erosion and sediment control (TESC); and construction observation and support for a new
193,000 square feet high school in Auburn, Washington.

The development on the 40-acre site consists of buildings, paved pedestrian areas, parking lots (providing a total of 650 spaces), a bus drop-off area, four ball fields, a soccer/football track and field, and seven tennis courts.

Call Centre Site Development

GHD provided civil engineering services for the renovation of an existing warehouse in Auburn, Washington. The warehouse was renovated so the Social Security Administration could provide a call centre to account for the upcoming increase of retirees in the national workforce.

Civil engineering services included grading, paving, storm drainage and utility design for the site.

Alaskan Way Viaduct & Seawall

GHD has provided utility coordination and relocation design services throughout the two-mile long Alaskan Way Viaduct corridor in Seattle, Washington.

GHD is responsible for data quality review for all utility mapping throughout the corridor, performing research of the City of Seattle’s GIS and other utility records dating back to 1900, resolving discrepancies, performing field checks, and integrating survey data.

M. Jane Ward

Jane brings over 30 years of civil engineering experience to GHD. A skilled Project Manager, Jane has experience with both municipal and industrial clients. She has specific skill in planning, design, and construction management for water and wastewater projects - including treatment facilities, pump stations, and conveyance systems. As Engineering Manager for GHD’s Seattle office, Jane is responsible for overseeing the overall technical direction and quality of work produced.

Jane has a Master of Science in Civil Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Texas Tech University. She is a Registered Professional Engineer in the states of Washington and Texas.

Kirk Smith

Kirk has 19 years of civil engineering experience, specializing in surface water planning and design. His surface water experience includes hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, preliminary design studies, stormwater management facility design, municipal surface water comprehensive planning, site development plan review, and final construction document preparation. His recent project management experience includes the 126th Street Drainage Improvements for the City of Everett, GHD’s efforts on Seattle Public Utilities’ Georgetown Flume Drainage Improvements, and the Shattuck Avenue S Stormwater Bypass project for the City of Renton.

Kirk has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington, and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the states of Washington and California.

John Velimesis

John brings over 20 years of program, project, and operations management experience to GHD. Successfully leading public and private projects in civil design and environmental studies, and implementing sustainable design practices, he is adept in developing community consensus on sensitive projects; with proven skills building partnerships to provide solutions to complex problems. John has led multi-disciplinary teams in the modeling, design, and restoration of disturbed fluvial systems on migrating reaches of the Pilchuck, Yakima, and Puyallup rivers; enhancing fisheries habitat and meeting or exceeding expectations of clients, State regulatory agencies, and tribal stakeholders.

John has a Master of Science in Civil Engineering – Computational Hydraulics and Fluvial Geomorphology from the University of Washington, and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Resource Management from Lehigh University. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Washington, and a Certified Floodplain Manager.

Megan Holcomb

Megan has ten years of water resource and wastewater engineering experience in the states of Washington, Michigan, and Ohio. Megan has also worked in Queensland, Australia as part of the GHD Waterways & Coastal Engineering team. Megan is experienced in working as part of a multi-disciplined team and with various public agencies. She has written three significant drainage studies and reports as a part of the Alaskan Way Viaduct Project. She was also responsible for writing the Michigan Department of Transportation Drainage Manual. Megan is proficient in the use of ArcGIS, and experienced with hydraulic modeling software such as HEC-RAS, XP-SWMM, and EPA-NET.

Megan has a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering – Water Resources from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), and a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Washington. She is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Washington and a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead.

Ray Edralin

Ray has over eight years of civil engineering experience in urban land development. He has provided site design for single and multi-family residences, educational facilities, community centers, parks, commercial redevelopments, and roadway infrastructure improvements. Ray provides a technical focus towards sustainable design, efficient site layout and access, ADA pathways, stormwater drainage investigations, and stormwater management. Ray is proficient in Autodesk Civil 3D, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling analysis, land surveying practices, and the LEED accreditation process.

Ray has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Seattle University. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Washington and a LEED Accredited Professional.

Kristin Pedersen

Kristin has a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington. She is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Washington, a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead, and has WSDOT Highway Runoff Manual (HRM) Certification.

Kathleen Elbortoukaly

Kat brings seven years of experience in civil engineering to GHD. Kat’s project experience includes drainage and roadway design, hydraulic modeling in XP-SWMM, utility design in AutoDesk Civil 3D, basin delineation, site layout, and cost estimating. Kat’s diverse experience includes working as a specifications department supervisor, where she was responsible for scheduling, estimating, production tracking, quality control, and management tasks including report preparation and budget tracking.

Kat has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Certificate in Construction Management from the University of Washington. She is a Registered Engineer in Training in the state of Washington.
