Al Bida Tower

The prominent location of the Al Bidda Tower, in the Dafna area of Qatar, demanded a form that would be a unique departure from the conventional design of an urban high-rise tower.

To this end, the facade of the tower is a continually twisting face that cannot be described as planar. This is achieved by having the rotor-shaped plan form of the tower undergo a rotation at every level. Additionally, the tower is larger in floor area on the top floors than at its base, making it a commercially profitable proposition.

Changsha First Boulevard Office

GHD undertook the site planning and detailed architectural design of this 28-storey commercial building in Changsha, Hunan province.

GHD won out against international competition because of its high-quality architectural design. Subsequently GHD was commissioned to complete the master plan design and documentation, the landscape design, and project management services.

Goulburn-Murray Rural Water

This building, completed in mid-2005, makes a fresh statement in a town that features ageing building stock, while also managing to be a practical and economic structure. The addition to the Kerang in northern Victoria houses Goulburn-Murray Water’s regional administration and engineering staff.

The unusual waveform theme expressed in the shaping of the main and supplementary roofs relates to the client’s waveform logo and to their business of harvesting, storing and distributing water resources across northern Victoria.

Innovation Place

Design and innovation were the main criteria for this commercial development that breaks new ground in building sustainability. GHD architects have succeeded on a project that has received 5-star Green Star and Australian Building Greenhouse Rating (ABGR) ratings.

Innovation Place is a 20-storey building with a gross floor area of 28,400sq m and a floor plate of approximately 1300sq m. The space includes a three-level basement parking for 143 cars, a three-storey high podium, cafe, office areas and car parking entry and loading dock.

As a former director of CCN and the GHD Service Group Manager, Architecture, in Sydney, he has extensive experience in the corporate property sector, with specific experience in commercial office design, retail, industrial and residential development, and retirement and education design.

Major projects that Nando has led in his career include the CBD Centennial Plaza, Sun Alliance Building in Chatswood, and Innovation Place, North Sydney.
