Al Wakrah Hospital

image

GHD is the principal consultant for the design and post -contract supervision of this 300-bed, 122,000sqm acute care hospital, south of Doha.

The design is based on concentric circles, evocative of a stone thrown in a pond, to symbolise the outward growth of the hospital as it it expands into the future. The circular design allows for maximum use of light, which is both environmentally sound and also thought to be beneficial in the healing of patients.

Dubai University Hospital

GHD is providing a range of services for a 400-bed tertiary care teaching hospital development in Dubai. Known as University Hospital, the project boasts a construction budget of AED2.1 billion (AU$700 million). University Hospital contributes to Dubai’s vision to become a global centre of excellence for healthcare delivery.

Located within a low-rise, Mediterranean-themed, master planned healthcare development, this 18-storey building has a contemporary double skin facade and includes a three-level basement with parking for 2500 cars. Medical care will be provided in a four-level podium block with bed wards located in the tower above. Administrative offices will be housed in a separate eight-storey building to the south, linked to the medical block via a glazed walkway.

Royal Perth Hospital

image

New state trauma and burns units at The Royal Perth Hospital were completed in December 2007 and February 2008 respectively after a contract period of approximately 48 weeks.

The 3000sq m redevelopment on the third floor in the North Block provides an additional 40 beds to the hospital (25 new trauma beds, 10 relocated burns beds and five dual-use, i.e. trauma or burns, beds). This design flexibility allows the hospital to accommodate up to 30 trauma patients or 15 burns patients.. The design brief for the new AUD$8 million facility included major changes to the existing fire and smoke compartments (from a single fire zone to three separate fire zones and six separate smoke compartments) as well as the installation of a new air-conditioning plant room within the existing ceiling space on the third floor.

Skin and Cancer Centre

image

The Skin and Cancer Foundation purchased a property adjacent to its previous premises and engaged GHD to provide a master plan for the layout of the 1450sq m first floor level. The plan had to take into account the fact that once ground floor existing leases expire, the Foundation's services could expand if there was demand.

Strategically located in Carlton, Melbourne in an active medico-health precinct, the facility provides world-class services, education and research in dermatology. The distinctive building is located on a corner site and incorporates extensive car parking in the building and on the rooftop. It is set up to provide both consulting and treatment services for the largely senior patient base.
