The vision for the development is that of a medium-sized village community with village-scale streets that afford residents the opportunity to socialise; fostering a sense of community, ownership and pride in their surroundings.

Aquacity

GHD has prepared the detailed master plan for Aquacity, a development located adjacent to the proposed Waterfront City in Vietnam’s Dong Nai province.   

The development is being undertaken by a consortia led by the diversified international corporation, VinaCapital, with participation from local organisations DonaCoop and An Phu Long JSC.

Australian National Ports Strategy

Launched in January 2011, the Australian National Ports Strategy provides a coordinated planning approach to assist Australian governments in planning for port infrastructure and the associated road and rail linkages that connect these important gateways to all Australian cities and towns.

Through the provision of five themed background papers, several presentations and support at two stakeholder forums, one in Melbourne and the other in Adelaide, GHD assisted Infrastructure Australia and the National Transport Commission to develop a draft strategy.

Beijing Technology Fortune Centre

The Fortune/Technology Centre is a major urban redevelopment project in the heart of Beijing. It has a projected budget in excess of USD$200,000,000.

Consisting of office, serviced apartment, commercial shopping mall and medium-rise residential development, the project occupies a full city block in Beijing and will incorporate extensive landscape works, exclusive sporting clubs and amenities.

City Road footbridge, NSW

The design of the City Road footbridge was the subject of an International design competition won by John Wardle Architects.

GHD was engaged by The University of Sydney, NSW to develop and detail an economical and aesthetically pleasing alternative pedestrian bridge to satisfy Sydney City Council planners.

Commonwealth Place

Located on one of Canberra’s most prominent vista’s the Commonwealth Place Forecourt project will promote pedestrian and user interaction with Lake Burley Griffin. The $3M project contains two jetty structures and a central sunken concrete bowl area.

The jetty’s are supported by 76 galvanised screwed steel piles and a galvanised steel substructure. The substructure is topped by over 7000 lineal metres of architecturally detailed fully recycled hardwood decking. The jetties and forecourts area feature custom designed mooring bollards, street furniture and life buoy/events power cabinets.

Enpark

Dubai is setting the pace in planning a community that embraces high sustainability values.

In keeping with the Ruler of Dubai’s directive to develop only ‘green’ buildings, EnPark will be one of Dubai’s first master planned communities to embody sustainability principles. These principles cover land use, urban design, buildings and open spaces.

Green One UN House

The Green One UN House in Hanoi is the first of 16 pilot projects around the world to co-locate multiple UN agencies in a single building to encourage collaboration.

The ground floor welcomes visitors to its conference centre, including a 200 person theatrette and formal meeting spaces. The café forms a dynamic hub for staff and clients to interact. It also includes a travel agency, a bank, and learning and research space.

Lishui River Water Front Urban Design

The riverfront precinct in one of China’s most famous tourist cities is being transformed into a vibrant urban space.

GHD’s Beijing and Changsa offices recently won an international competition to provide the urban design that will revitalise the waterfront precinct of the city of Zhangjiajie, on the Lishui River in Hunan province, in the world heritage-listed Zhangjiajie national park.

North Sapphire Beach Subdivision

GHD was engaged by Sapphire Beach Properties to develop the infrastructure master planning, preliminary and final designs for a 267 lot residential subdivision at iconic North Sapphire Beach just north of Coffs Harbour.

This included road and pedestrian walkways/cycleways, stormwater drainage, water and sewerage services and coordination of the electrical and telecommunications services. The conceptual layouts were refined to accommodate flora and fauna habitats and physical constraints, including flood zones.

Nuvali Transport Planning, Ayala Land Inc.

GHD provided transportation and traffic modelling to determine the appropriate number of road lanes required by Nuvali, an Ayala Land, Inc. development south of Metro Manila. The key feature of this development is the adoption of sustainable and environmentally sound design practices. We also prepared conceptual plans for all utilities, including water supply, wastewater collection and treatment, drainage system, power distribution and telecommunication systems.

The Palm Islands

This Palm Islands project in Dubai will support about 20 luxury hotels/resorts, 2000 exclusive residential beachside villas and 27,000 apartments. Office buildings, marinas, theme parks, restaurants, shopping malls, cinemas, community facilities and large areas of public open space also feature.

Urban Design and Planning in Canberra’s University Precinct

A vibrant mixed-use residential, cultural and arts precinct, will create a ‘dynamic heart’ for Canberra that connects the city with the Australian National University.

The Childers Street project arose out of a Australian Capital Territory Planning and Land Authority’s (ACTPLA) City West Master Plan, which was completed in May 2004. The Childers Street precinct is part of a major focus on urban regeneration by the ACT state government.

WA Schools Public Private Partnership

The State Government of Western Australia elected to procure four new primary schools and three new secondary schools, and the second stage of an existing secondary school using a Public Private Partnership (PPP) process.

This project will use the skills and abilities of the private sector to design, build, finance and maintain the schools, allowing principals and teachers more time to focus on teaching and delivering valuable student outcomes.

Woodside Library fitout, South Australia

Situated in the Adelaide Hills precinct, the local council engaged GHD to undertake a complete refurbishment of the existing library to align the interior with the recently completed Stirling Library project.

The key focus of the brief was to ensure a substantial upgrade of the interactive areas used by children and adolescents. Custom graphics were developed by GHD to indicate key areas within the library space such as computer areas for teenagers, coffee lounge area for relaxation and reading, spaces for families and play areas for younger children.

Louisa Carter

Louisa is responsible for the coordination and management of GHD’s multi-disciplinary design teams and the project management of infrastructure planning, urban planning studies, major architectural projects and infrastructure design. Specialising in the area of integrated transport and land use, Louisa provides a strong technical and creative direction to achieve co-ordinated designs and strategies aligning infrastructure systems with desired urban outcomes.

Glenn Dixon

Glen has more than 18 years’ experience in the management of a diverse range of multi-disciplinary Infrastructure and urban renewal and Environmental projects in the private and public sector. He was recently involved in programming the infrastructure roll out for the Revitalisation of Central Dandenong initiative. He was also involved in both expression of interest and detailed bid phases for the Melbourne Docklands development.
