Under its 'Libraries for All' building program, Seattle Public
Library built a new branch library in Ballard as part of its
neighborhood new municipal centre master plan.
The green building was designed on a modest budget and included
elements taken from Ballard’s Scandinavian and maritime history.
The project included underground parking, a neighborhood service
centre and a vegetated roof.
GHD was responsible for the design of grading, paving, storm
drainage, and utility design for the site and adjacent offsite
areas.
GHD also provided right-of-way improvement plans for site
frontages for 250 feet of 22nd Avenue NW, 200 feet of NW 56th
Street and 200 feet of NW 57th Street. This project received a
2006 American Institute of Architects Honor Award for
Architecture.
