Climate change impacts study on River Red Gums

The Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment engaged GHD to compare the effects of three different climate scenarios on River Red gum communities in northern Victoria.

The study focused on the likely changes to the frequency, duration, interval and extent of flooding of River Red Gum communities along the Murray.

This information was used to compare the effects of climate change and the resultant threats to different areas, and was incorporated with value and feasibility data to develop a prioritisation tool.

The second stage of the project applied the prioritisation tool and developed management options and cost and water consumption estimates for non-living Murray sites.

It is anticipated the outputs of these two investigations will inform Victoria’s Northern Region Sustainable Water Strategy (NRSWS) plans for water use across northern Victoria for the next 50 years, as well as water recovery and environmental flow projects in northern Victoria.
