Crinum East Underground Coal Mine, Queensland

The Crinum East Underground Coal Mine is located approximately 50km north-east of Emerald, with production planned at 5.5Mtpa for a mine life of 5 years.

GHD was commissioned to carry out detailed design for civil, mechanical and electrical components of ramp and stockpile conveyors, including a sub station.

This included design of steel and concrete structures, footings and foundations; design and layout of the ramp conveyor, including transfers, chute-work, support structures, skirts and conveyor loading areas; and design of walkways, stairways and mechanical guarding.

BMA Crinum also engaged GHD to develop an equipment life plan for their belt conveyor.

This involved 5 sections including:

• Equipment register development – identification of all equipment required to efficiently and effectively operate the belt conveyor.
• Equipment criticality analysis – identification of the consequences of failure for each piece of equipment and its subsequent probability of occurring.
• Equipment life plans – develop a detailed life plan for each failure type associated with the equipment providing detailed actions and criteria and related maintenance routine numbers. This also includes a summary of the manhours and materials cost.
• SAP 4.6, preventive maintenance routines – development of preventive maintenance schedules for all routines
• Bill of Materials – develop a complete bill of materials required for the effective and efficient maintenance of the underground belt conveyors. Critical equipment was identified during this process. The preventive maintenance routines were reviewed and adjusted to suit the working environment of the equipment.

The outcomes for BMA from this process included a reduction in breakdowns, improved reliability, availability and an increased production capacity.
