Demonstrating the benefits of innovation transfer where
concepts that are well accepted in one discipline can then be
adapted and introduced to solve issues confronting a completely
different context, this water treatment innovation was developed by
one of GHD's younger mechanical engineers, who looked at the mature
Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) water treatment process with a fresh
perspective and enquiring mind. Inspired by widely adopted energy
recovery devices (ERDs) used to reduce energy consumption in the
desalination process, GHD's engineer designed a unique way (patent
pending) to incorporate an ERD within the energy intensive DAF
process to reduce its energy consumption by up to 50%. Not content
to stop there, GHD's inventor then developed a new type of ERD
(patent pending) that can be used both within the DAF and
desalination processes, providing a range of design and operational
benefits over existing technologies.
