The Australian Defence Force is acquiring 46 MRH90 helicopters
to replace the Navy’s Sea King and the Army’s Black Hawk
helicopters.
Delivery of the first of 34 of these aircraft is scheduled to
commence in January 2010, with the aircraft ultimately based at
HMAS Albatross (Nowra), as well as RAAF Base Townsville, Army
Aviation Centre (Oakey) and Holsworthy Barracks (Sydney).
GHD has been engaged to design appropriate operational, training
and maintenance facilities for various bases, to support the new
aircraft. These services broadly encompass:
- Operational, maintenance and simulator facilities at HMAS
Albatross, Nowra
- Maintenance, training and simulator facilities at the Army
Aviation Centre Oakey (AACO), Queensland
- Operational, maintenance and simulator facilities at RAAF Base
Townsville, Queensland
- Office accommodation for Headquarters at Gallipoli Barracks,
Enoggera, Queensland
GHD Nowra Office was responsible for the overall project
management and design coordination for the new multi-role
helicopter facilities at HMAS Albatross in Nowra, as well as a
maintenance facility at the Army Aviation Centre in Oakey,
near Townsville.
