Defence MRH 90 Helicopter Facilities

The Australian Defence Force is acquiring 46 MRH90 helicopters to replace the Navy’s Sea King and the Army’s Black Hawk helicopters.

Delivery of the first of 34 of these aircraft is scheduled to commence in January 2010, with the aircraft ultimately based at HMAS Albatross (Nowra), as well as RAAF Base Townsville, Army Aviation Centre (Oakey) and Holsworthy Barracks (Sydney).

GHD has been engaged to design appropriate operational, training and maintenance facilities for various bases, to support the new aircraft. These services broadly encompass:

  • Operational, maintenance and simulator facilities at HMAS Albatross, Nowra
  • Maintenance, training and simulator facilities at the Army Aviation Centre Oakey (AACO), Queensland
  • Operational, maintenance and simulator facilities at RAAF Base Townsville, Queensland
  • Office accommodation for Headquarters at Gallipoli Barracks, Enoggera, Queensland

GHD Nowra Office was responsible for the overall project management and design coordination for the new multi-role helicopter facilities at HMAS Albatross in Nowra, as well as a maintenance facility at the Army Aviation Centre in Oakey, near Townsville.
