Greengrove Effluent Irrigation Scheme

The Greengrove Effluent Irrigation Scheme is Dubbo City Council’s practical and far-sighted response to serious waste disposal, environmental and urban issues following toxic algae blooms in the Murray-Darling Basin.

Dubbo City Council engaged GHD (in conjunction with the NSW Department of Commerce, NSW Department of Energy and Utilities & Sustainability) as the head contractor responsible for constructing and commissioning the scheme. The scheme consists of 208ha of centre pivot irrigation, related infrastructure and paddock preparation. Our team also has an ongoing role in the scheme’s operation and management.

As a result of GHD's contribution to this project, Dubbo City Council will reuse 1600Ml annually of treated effluent in a safe, sustainable and environmentally friendly way. In addition, the scheme produces 2700 dry tonnes of high quality fodder annually for surrounding livestock enterprises irrespective of the season.
