Halton Transportation Masterplan (2031) - The Road to Change

GHD provided project management services to lead the development of Halton Region's Transportation Master Plan to 2031 - The Road to Change.

Over the next 25 years, the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH) is expected to grow significantly.  The Province of Ontario forecasts that Halton Region will comprise a significant portion of this growth, and will have a population of approximately 780,000 people and 390,000 jobs in 2031.

To help manage this growth, the Regional Municipality of Halton is undertaking the development of its Transportation Master Plan to 2031 - The Road to Change.  The Transportation Master Plan (TMP) grew out of the Region's Sustainable Halton Study, which designated a preferred growth stategy for meeting growth management and land use targets established by the provincial Places to Grow Plan and Greenbelt Plan for the GGH.

In addition to its role as project manager of the TMP study, which is following the Class Environmental Assessment process, GHD's role in the project included:

  • Engineering analysis,
  • Representation at meetings with stakeholders and Public Information Centres,
  • Development of policy, and
  • Preparation of the final TMP defining the Region's transportation strategy to 2031

The transportation alternatives considered in the TMP are multi-modal transportation strategies, including facilities for cycling, pedestrians, transit, automobiles and goods movements.

The TMP study completion is expected in the Spring of 2011.
