Melbourne Mausoleum

GHD provided the structural and civil designs for the Luciano Rossetti mausoleum at Melbourne’s Springvale Botanical Cemetery. GHD worked closely with the principal designer, Harmer Architecture, to deliver this landmark structure.

GHD’s design featured shaped precast concrete panels for the external vertical structure; cast in-situ concrete crypt cores designed to extend the service past 100 years; an efficient steel framed roof; unusual angular plan form; rainwater harvesting and special features such as the steel framed glass wall, reflection ponds and skylit galleries. GHD also designed all crypt cores, and gallery slabs have been designed as suspended structures for a long and trouble-free service life for the building complex.

The mausoleum won the best overall concrete project award at the 2007 Cement and Aggregates Australia public domain awards.
