North Sapphire Beach Subdivision

GHD was engaged by Sapphire Beach Properties to develop the infrastructure master planning, preliminary and final designs for a 267 lot residential subdivision at iconic North Sapphire Beach just north of Coffs Harbour.

This included road and pedestrian walkways/cycleways, stormwater drainage, water and sewerage services and coordination of the electrical and telecommunications services. The conceptual layouts were refined to accommodate flora and fauna habitats and physical constraints, including flood zones.

GHD also undertook an intergrated water cycle management study to maximise water reuse and reduce potable water demand. The company applied water-sensitive urban design principals to the stormwater drainage system to conserve water.

The development minimises impacts on the environment while still providing construction and operational flexibility. Over half of the 74-hectare beachfront site has been preserved as green space in parks, reserves and open space.

The project was awarded the ‘Best Residential Development’ at the 2008 NSW Urban Development Institute of Australia Excellence Awards.
