Northern Energy Corporation Limited – Elimatta Project

NEC appointed GHD to perform a conceptual study for the production of approximately 40,000 bpd of liquid transport fuels from their Elimatta coal deposit located in the northern Surat Basin of Queensland.

The conceptual study was prepared in two parts.  The first part was a review of coal to liquids technologies, indirect liquefaction e.g. gasification with fischer tropsch synthesis, direct liquefaction and / or hybrid options, and selection of a preferred option for monetising Elimatta coal resources by production of diesel.  Indirect coal liquefaction was selected for the base case for this concept study.

The scope for the second part of the study included developing the ICL concept design, including capital and operating cost estimates, estimating the CO2 produced and developing a concept for collection, compression and transmission to a nominated location for geo-sequestration, evaluating alternative product distribution networks and providing a preliminary project development plan leading to commercialisation.

Hydrocarbons Processing

image

Hydrocarbon Processing facilities handle products which are flammable and hazardous and often at elevated pressures and temperatures. We have a direct interest in the various aspects of process hazard management – pipeline risk assessments, HAZOP study, SIL/LOPA study, Consequence Modelling of hazardous incidents (e.g. gas dispersion and thermal radiation). Our activities include the revalidation of previously completed process hazard analysis studies.
