SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre

The recently completed 10,000 square metre SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre caters for both the professional athlete and members of the community alike.

The competition area includes a 50 metre competition pool, 55 metre diving and water polo pool, 10 metre dive tower and a 4,500 seat grandstand. The 1,000 square metre leisure centre includes water slides, a 25 metre lap pool, a dedicated learn to swim pool, play equipment, toddler pools and an extensive health centre.

GHD completed the structural and civil engineering component of the design. This included detailed design and documentation of the structural steel framing, precast podium and grandstand seating plats, all insitu concrete, site grading, and drainage including the stormwater harvesting system.

Through innovation and collaboration, design and construction of the facility was remarkably completed in only 16 months. Construction proceeded in parallel with the design and prefabricated building elements were utilised for numerous elements of the project to reduce construction time. Given the potentially corrosive environment there was also a strong focus on durability, maintenance and all of life project costs.
