Shenhua Watermark

GHD provides a comprehensive range of services to Shenhua's Watermark Project in New South Wales, Australia.

The Shenhua Group, one of China’s leading energy companies, holds an exploration licence near Gunnedah in New South Wales that contains more than one billion tonnes of accumulated coal resources.

GHD is assisting Shenhua with:

  • Community consultation services, including the establishment of a Community Consultative Committee and the creation of a project website.
  • Environmental approvals, including preparation of a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) and Environmental Management Plans (EMP).
  • Field/office based supervision and technical management of the drilling program, including geological logging.
  • Resource model development and coal quality evaluation
  • Hydrogeological field program supervision and monitoring, including the study of the Namoi Water Catchment Area
  • Mine development schedule.


This project follows on from review works carried out by GHD in response to the special conditions outlined in the Watermark Exploration Licence as specified by the NSW Department of Primary Industries.

The project is being supported by GHD staff from offices in Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and China.
