The Skin and Cancer Foundation purchased a property adjacent to
its previous premises and engaged GHD to provide a master plan for
the layout of the 1450sq m first floor level. The plan had to
take into account the fact that once ground floor existing leases
expire, the Foundation's services could expand if there was
demand.
Strategically located in Carlton, Melbourne in an
active medico-health precinct, the facility provides world-class
services, education and research in dermatology. The distinctive
building is located on a corner site and incorporates extensive car
parking in the building and on the rooftop. It is set up to provide
both consulting and treatment services for the largely senior
patient base.
Facilities include consulting rooms, treatment
rooms, radiotherapy and pathology; and support services such as
medical records and photography, and a range of specialised
dermatological treatments.
The building services required significant
upgrading to meet required standards and included the installation
of two lifts, one of which was to facilitate disabled access from
the car park.
The resulting fit out of the building is a fine
example of how good planning skills can result in an efficient
flow of patients, staff, goods and waste, and better access to
support services.
