GHD is pleased to have played a significant role in this
mission, recently completing the design and implementation of a new
Starlight Room at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide.
This is the first of four new rooms to be completed in hospitals
around Australia.
With a focus on escape, GHD has created an environment that is a
departure from the rigours of traditional hospital life. Starlight
Express Rooms have typically adopted an outer space theme, and it
was GHD’s task to revisit the concept, maintaining a sense of
‘another world’ for young patients. The new concept features
an ‘internal garden’ – bringing an abstract outdoor environment
indoors. The intent was to add warmth, texture and comfort to the
spaces patients and their families visit.
The smile on the children’s’ faces as they escape into this “new
world” is heart-warming. Our team has found working on this
job to be an immensely rewarding experience. GHD is proud of
its ongoing association with the Starlight Foundation.
