Sydney Metro Northwest – Operations, Trains and Systems Independent Certifier Services

Share on:

The AU$8.3 billion Sydney Metro Northwest project - formerly the North West Rail Link - is the first stage of Sydney Metro, Australia’s largest public transport infrastructure project. It will be the first fully-automated metro rail system in Australia with passenger services starting in the first half of 2019.

The delivery of this 36 km rail system involves both greenfield and brownfield work. It also includes the manufacturing of 22, single deck, 6-car sets of Rolling Stock and the associated control systems to achieve a Grade of Automation level 4.

Transport for NSW has divided the project into three major and separate contracts: a D&C contract for Surface Works and Viaducts (SVC), a D&C contract for Tunnelling and Stations (TSC), and a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP), for the Operations, Trains and Systems (OTS).

TfNSW has also entered into contractual arrangements with multiple stakeholders to facilitate the delivery of the project, including local councils, Sydney Trains and Roads and Maritime Services.

GHD, in a joint venture, is currently delivering Independent Certifier services for the OTS portion of the Sydney Metro Northwest project.

By combining a proactive and collaborative philosophy with a risk-based systems approach, GHD has been providing timely, efficient and transparent certification results for the benefit of TfNSW, NRT and, ultimately, the overall delivery of the Sydney Metro Northwest Project.
