Tassal Operations is the largest aquaculture company in Australia accounting for 70 percent of the Tasmanian salmon industry’s total production. In March 2007, Tassal engaged GHD on a five-year plan to significantly expand their production capabilities.

Our team has assisted Tassal with a strategic review of the company’s processing facilities and logistics, as well as providing engineering and project management services.

Key deliverables included:

  • Development of a suite of upgrade works for the processing facilities and receival and dispatch areas in order to achieve the required production and packaging rates
  • Preliminary planning and environmental studies for a proposed new processing facility
  • Review of various options for preliminary planning and design upgrades for a wastewater treatment plant
  • Review of wharf and ship berthing options
  • Strategic review of logistics and cold storage operations
  • Concept design for a storage and despatch facility
