Telecommunications Trunk Upgrade

ElectraNet SA, South Australia’s transmission network service provider, has upgraded its telecommunications network extending approximately 900km.

This program of work was identified in a draft Telecommunications Network Strategic Plan prepared by GHD. The work provides the opportunity to upgrade to modern technology and increase the telecommunications capacity of the network.

GHD prepared the scope definition and cost plans, design and construct tender packages, recommended and coordinated equipment procurement, and is currently responsible for construction management.

The trunk design comprised microwave radio and associated multiplexing for 26 links, selection and establishment of new repeater sites with consideration of Aboriginal heritage, development approvals and site lease negotiations, and upgrade of towers at existing sites in accordance with ElectraNet SA’s design standards.
