GHD has been engaged by the Department of Defence as project
manager and contract administrator on a major upgrade of facilities
at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Base Butterworth in
Malaysia — a pivotal forward operating base for
Australia.
The RMAF Butterworth Malaysia rationalisation
project involves new construction and the refurbishment of a range
of facilities to comply with the various relevant standards and
codes. The works must meet the functional and security requirements
of the Australian Defence Forces units deployed at the base,
including the Royal Australian Air Force 324 Combat Support
Squadron and 92 Wing Detachment A as well as the Army’s 2nd/30th
Training Group and Rife Company Butterworth.
The project includes the construction of three
new headquarters (buildings), following the demolition of the three
existing structures; the refurbishment and upgrading of existing
accommodation and facilities; some building extensions;
and building of a new sewage treatment plant.
