Urban growth in Kuching city

Satok Bridge provides the only link between the State Government’s Administration Centre of Petra Jaya and the urban amenities of Kuching city in Malaysia. Population growth and urban development meant the bridge had to be widened so commuters could have easier access to the Kuching town centre.

GHD originally managed design and construction of the four-lane bridge in the 1970s.

Since that time, GHD has undertaken a detailed analysis of projected traffic demands, concept design and project management an additional  two lanes.

With the assistance of our Malaysian engineers, our design team from Cairns in Australia worked on the bridge extension, which is supported by 24m and 30m long pre-tensioned and pre-stressed girders.
