Water Allocation Planning – Mount Lofty Ranges

GHD was engaged to assist the Department of Water, Land and Biodiversity Conservation in South Australia develop water allocation plans for the Eastern and Western Mount Lofty Ranges Prescribed Water Resources. The project involved providing advice on water allocations to existing users and water trading rules for consideration in the Water Allocation Plan.

There were three project objectives:

  • Provide options and recommendations for methodologies to determine the reasonable requirements of existing water users
  • Provide options and recommendations for methodologies to reduce allocations where required
  • Develop water trading rules that would be suitable for Eastern and Western Mount Lofty Ranges.

The project involved the provision of scientific and technical advice and analysis, as well as statistical and data analysis, market analysis and stakeholder consultation and engagement.

The advice provided greatly assisted the Department in developing water allocation plans that were consistent with South Australian legislation as well as industry-leading water planning and management.
