GHD were appointed to complete the final options, business case and preliminary design for the Cooroy to Curra, Southern Interchange to Sankeys Road.

GHD were appointed to complete final options, Business Case and Preliminary Design along a 14km stretch of road from the Cooroy Southern Interchange to Sankeys Road..

In general, the works included route finalisation and options analysis for the location of proposed northern and southern interchanges to Cooroy township, consultation, environmental studies, hydraulic analysis, road and bridge design to preliminary design standard for the proposed 4 lane, and ultimate 6 lane, highway upgrade. The design included a coordinated approach with DTMR in terms of geological investigation of the corridor and consultation with all stakeholders.

The design presented several challenges in terms of utilizing the existing road and bridge infrastructure within the existing road corridor on the southern section of Section A. This corridor, which traverses the Yurol State Forest, was preserved in 1992 by the original Cooroy Bypass Project and based on design standards of the day.
