Al Raha Beach

The Al Raha Beach development is a beachfront project being built along the Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway, opposite Al Raha Gardens.

The USD$15 billion development sits on reclaimed land at Al Raha Beach, occupying an area of 6.8 million square metres, with a total built-up area of 12 million square metres. Developed by ALDAR, Al Raha Beach will be a new city district that will serve as the new gateway to Abu Dhabi City and accommodate 120,000 residents in an arrangement of high-rise towers and low-rise developments. It is being built in 11 residential and commercial precincts, each with its own distinct personality and appeal.

Al Wakrah Hospital

GHD is the principal consultant for the design and post -contract supervision of this 300-bed, 122,000sq m acute care hospital, south of Doha.

The design is based on concentric circles, evocative of a stone thrown in a pond, to symbolise the outward growth of the hospital as it it expands into the future. The circular design allows for maximum use of light, which is both environmentally sound and also thought to be beneficial in the healing of patients.

Bilal Pearl Tower

GHD has been engaged by Ahmed Hassan Bilal Trading and Contracting Company to re-design and oversee the construction of a 20-storey residential tower on the Pearl Island development in Qatar.

The tower development consists of chalets; studios; one, two and three bedroom apartments and penthouses; and facilities including two swimming pools, and separate male and female gymnasiums.

This centre for excellence located in Queensland offers commercial training to businesses throughout Australasia. The site boasts an education centre, live fire campus, technical rescue cell and training facilities.

GHD helped George Weston Foods to turn their fire disaster into triumph by designing and supervising the construction of Australia’s largest bakery, located in Chullora, New South Wales.

Our 80-strong team from Australia and New Zealand delivered planning, site selection, building layouts, and design and construction phase services. The solution included innovative design, fire protection, and energy-efficient hydraulic, mechanical and electrical services.

Queensland Hospital Upgrades

The Bundaberg Barrel

The Bundaberg Barrel is an iconic symbol of the traditional brewing methods of the famous Bundaberg Brewed Drinks factory. This new tourist facility reflects this concept, housed within a purpose-designed building shaped in the form of a traditional timber barrel.

As well as the unique barrel shaped building, design works included associated external roadworks, carparking and landscaping.

Woodford Correctional Centre

Use of the sewer to dispose of contraband during security searches is not possible at the high-security Woodford Correctional Centre in southern Queensland. GHD developed a vacuum sewer system that enables operators to isolate any block prior to security searches.

The system was selected because it was easier and more cost-efficient to install, as the site is predominantly hard rock. It also offered ecologically-sustainable development principles, because it reduced water usage.

Don Boynton

Don Boynton started his career in 1985 in the construction industry. In 1990, Don was employed as a construction manager and worked on several projects in Vanuatu. On returning to Australia he took up a position as a supervisor and then as a plumbing inspector for the Beaudesert Shire Council. From there, Don moved on to be a hydraulics designer with Connell Wagner Consulting Engineers and GHD.

Projects delivered by Don have required him to take the project from concept design, to detailed design and documentation, to construction and commissioning phases. Don brings practical and technical knowledge to projects from his experience in the construction industry.
