Comprehensive Asset Management Project for Alor Setar Telecommunication Tower

Telekom Malaysia engaged GHD on a comprehensive asset management project at Alor Setar Telecommunication Tower in Kedah. Measuring 165.5m in height, the Alor Setar Tower comprises a tower structure, podium, amphitheatre and two restaurants.

The upper level tower houses telecommunications and broadcasting equipment.

Grafton Country Energy

Intensive planning and project management services have helped guide the design and construction of a new training facility for Country Energy in Grafton.

GHD provided full design and documentation services for a new training facility at Lawrence Road. The work included renovations to an existing building, a new outdoor covered area, a new workshop and a training room that were integrated with the existing facilities at the depot site.

Radio Communications Safety Guidelines

The Department of Commerce in New South Wales has developed comprehensive and standardised safety guidelines for radio communications sites. These guidelines will be applied by the respective government agencies that own and operate more than 5000 radio sites.

GHD is playing a pivotal role by preparing a structure for the guidelines and collecting information that is currently embedded in a number of disparate standards and codes, and the relevant occupational health and safety, and telecommunications legislation.

RF EME Assessment Services

GHD has carried out full audits of radio communication sites to provide assessment on occupational health and safety requirements and compliance to standards for Telstra, Optus, John Holland, Urbis, Daly International and the New South Wales Government.

Exposure to electromagnetic energy (EME) assessments include a variety of site compliance documentation, and checking on the safety of personnel accessing the site, via a preliminary radio frequency EME and RadHaz (radiation hazard) drawings, environmental EME reports (Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency report), site assessment reports, radio communication site management books and site compliance certificates.

Telstra 3G Mobile Phone Rollout

GHD completed engineering design and survey at more than 2000 sites for Telstra’s WCDMA 850 (Jersey) national rollout.

As part of this project, GHD was engaged by several design and construction clients, including John Holland Telecommunications, Zamro, National Infrastructure Services and AAPCS.

Telstra Wireless Site Design Services

GHD was engaged by Telstra to design macro base station infrastructure for Telstra’s Mobile Network. This panel arrangement commenced in December 2006, and is a multi-year, national panel contract covering ‘greenfield’ and new co-location sites for Telstra across all states of Australia.

The range of services provided includes town planning, site inspection, survey, drafting and engineering design services. To date, GHD has completed design services at over 250 sites across Australia.

UK Rail Footprint Assessment

Greenhouse gas (GHG) management is an essential part of any organisation’s sustainability and corporate responsibility agenda. GHD partnered with CenSA on railways greenhouse gas emissions measurement in the United Kingdom.

In December 2008, the United Kingdom (UK) made a upgraded its commitment to reduce its national carbon dioxide emissions, by at least 34 per cent by 2020 and 80 per cent by 2050, in comparison to 1990 levels. In anticipation of tough regulatory and other policy drivers, the rail sector sought to better understand its contribution to the national GHG footprint and the ways in which this can be reduced.
